Cooler temperatures, possible thunderstorms in Las Vegas this week

The Las Vegas Valley will see cooler temperatures, humidity and possible thunderstorms this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday saw a high temperature 106 degrees and low of 86, meteorologist Barry Pierce. Rainfall at McCarran International Airport measured 0.03 of an inch. There was about a half to three quarters of an inch of rainfall Sunday in the west valley, he said.

Temperatures will slightly drop Monday, with a 20 percent chance of rain for the week through Saturday, the weather service said. The humidity is in place with monsoon moisture and daytime heating initiates thunderstorms, Pierce said.

The week begins with a high of 103 degrees forecast for Monday, 104 degrees for Tuesday, and 102 degrees for Wednesday, he said. Low temperatures for the week likely be in the 80s.

Winds should stay light and breezy for the week averaging about five to 15 mph, but they could get gustier winds and heavier with the chance of thunderstorms, Pierce said.

High temperatures are expected to remain lower than 105 with a high of 102 degrees on Thursday, 103 degrees on Friday and 102 degrees on Saturday, he said.
