Las Vegas could see record-breaking temperatures this week
May 30, 2016 - 5:36 pm
The Las Vegas Valley will see its first 100-degree day of 2016 this week, and temperatures will only rise from there, the National Weather Service said.
Highs for the week will stay around 10 degrees above average, the weather service said. Plenty of sunshine and heat is expected.
Monday saw a high of 96 degrees and a low of 69 degrees, meteorologist Dan Berc said.
A high of 98 degrees is expected Tuesday before the valley hits its first triple-digit high of the year with 101 degrees forecast for Wednesday, he said.
Thursday’s high could reach up to 103 degrees, and Friday could bring record-breaking heat if temperatures rise past the forecast high of 106 degrees, the weather service said. The record high for June 3 is 107 degrees, set in 1957.
“There is an excessive heat watch for Friday and Saturday,” Berc said. Weekend highs will stay in the triple-digit range.
Saturday will likely see a high of 108, Berc said.
