Strong night-time winds hit Las Vegas Valley

Updated August 31, 2017 - 10:03 pm

Strong gusts blew through the Las Vegas Valley on Thursday night, preceding a slightly cooler weekend after days of an excessive-heat warning.

The National Weather Service forecast heavy gusts — between 45 and 55 mph — starting in the northwest valley and traveling through the southeast valley Thursday night.

Meteorologist John Adair said the gusts were a combination of north winds out of Lincoln County meeting a thunderstorm near Cold Creek and Lee Canyon.

“It pushed out this blast of winds,” he said.

Adair said Friday and Saturday will see highs of 103 and 102 degrees, respectively, and lows of 82 and 81 degrees. Sunday’s high drops to 100 degrees, with a low of 81 degrees. Thursday’s high reached 103 degrees.

The highs are normal for this time of year, Adair said.
