Warm on Wednesday, but cool, rainy weather headed to Vegas
February 17, 2016 - 8:04 am
The warm weather continues in the Las Vegas Valley on Wednesday, but a system moving through Wednesday night will cool off the valley by about 10 degrees and may bring some rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Wednesday is expected to see a high temperature of 79 degrees, just shy of the 1996 record of 81, NWS meteorologist Chad Shafer said. It is possible that parts of the valley may see higher temperatures, which could threaten that record.
Clouds will begin to form during the day, resulting in "nearly overcast or overcast" conditions Wednesday evening. These clouds will bring a small chance for rain for Las Vegas Wednesday night, but most of the precipitation is expected in the Spring Mountains and other outlying areas, Shafer said. Any rain that could fall in Las Vegas likely will be slight, Shafer said, and higher elevations in the mountains could see some snow.
Winds are expected to increase Wednesday evening, with gusts up to 40 mph expected Thursday. A wind advisory has been issued for Thursday, Shafer said.
Thursday is expected to cool down to a high of 69 degrees, which is closer to the normal high of 63 degrees for this time of year, Shafer said. The clouds are expected to break up by Thursday afternoon.
After this system moves through, weather in the valley will go "back to high and dry," Shafer said, but it will take a few days for it to warm up.
