Warm weather sticking around Las Vegas Valley
March 2, 2016 - 9:10 pm
After almost tying a high temperature record set in 1967 on Wednesday, the valley is expected to cool 20 degrees by Monday.
Wednesday saw temperatures peak at 81 degrees in the afternoon, just missing the March 2 record high temperature set in 1967 at 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
A high temperature of 83 degrees is forecast Thursday, with a nighttime low about 56, metoerologist Clay Morgan said.
Friday and Saturday should see temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s before a two-storm system moves in Saturday night, Morgan said. The storms are expected to come from a parent storm sitting over the gulf of Alaska Wednesday night, he said.
“And then things change pretty dramatically on Sunday,” said meteorologist Clay Morgan.
Following an unusually dry February, the weather service forecasts a 50 percent chance of rain Sunday and Monday.
Temperatures will also drop nearly 15 degrees from Saturday, with a high of 66 degrees forecast Sunday afternoon and a high of 61 degrees expected Monday.
High temperatures should warm back up to 70 by Wednesday, Morgan said.
“That’s going to be pretty normal for this time of year,” he said.
Wednesday is expected to see high, thin clouds and winds 5 to 10 mph, according to the weather service.
