Wind advisory upgraded to high wind warning

Updated November 23, 2024 - 1:45 pm

A wind advisory for the Las Vegas Valley has been upgraded to a high wind warning.

The warning runs through 4 a.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

Downslope winds in the far western valley may create sudden gusts which can result in particularly hazardous crosswinds for high profile vehicles.

Rain should hold off until after the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday, but the windy conditions could be a factor for drivers.

A 10 percent chance of showers comes in to play after 4 a.m. Sunday, rising to 20 percent by 10 a.m.

Lee Canyon open daily

Lee Canyon kicked off daily winter operations Friday with a 16-inch base.

Three of the resort’s five lifts, including Ponderosa and Rabbit Peak, will be open.

It is Lee Canyon’s first pre-Thanksgiving opening in more than a decade, according to a press release from the resort.

Possible mountain outage

Mount Charleston area residents may encounter a suspension of electricity into Saturday afternoon, according to NV Energy.

The utility may issue a “Public Safety Outage Management” event for Angel Peak and Kyle Canyon from about 10 p.m. Friday through 2 p.m. Saturday, according to a press release.

Gusts may reach 37 mph on Saturday night for Kyle Canyon.
