SMALL SCHOOLS: Eagles’ 1-2-3 finish sets up dominating win in Class 3A Southern League

Boulder City’s girls claimed the top three spots on Friday to dominate the Class 3A Southern League cross country meet at Mountain View Park in Laughlin.

The Eagles finished with 20 points to place first and earn a berth at next week’s state meet. Moapa Valley (48) was second and Virgin Valley (59) third.

Stephanie Adams was the top individual, winning the 3.1-mile race in 21:25.

Boulder City’s Jessica Tobler was the runner-up (21:31) and Dana Prach finished third (22:53).

Moapa Valley’s Tibi Willard (fourth), Jessany Mortensen (fifth) and Heidi Paul (10th) qualified for state as individuals along with Virgin Valley’s Ally Gonzales (seventh) and Dominique Burton (11th).

CLASS 3A BOYS — Moapa Valley’s Josh Thompson and Chase Witter finished one-two as the Pirates won the 3A boys race.

Moapa Valley finished with 27 points to claim a berth at state. Boulder City (39) was second and Virgin Valley (67) third.

Thompson won the race in 17:04, 11 seconds ahead of Witter.

Boulder City’s Taylor Clifford (17:44), Matt Lundgren (17:54) and Daniel Edmondson (18:04) rounded out the top five.

Clifford, Lundgren and Edmondson earned state berths along with Virgin valley’s Daniel Ramirez (sixth) and Boulder City’s Austin Lelles (12th).

CLASS 2A BOYS — West Wendover placed four runners in the top seven to edge Laughlin for the 2A boys title.

The Wolverines finished with 30 points, two ahead of Laughlin. Both teams advance to state.

Henderson International was third with 84.

Laughlin’s Jorgen Davidson (18:39) and Cody McGeshick (19:36) took the top two spots. West Wendover’s Jorge Rivera (19:59) was third.

Indian Springs’ Chris Howard (ninth), White Pine’s Brian Pay (11th) and Henderson International’s Kristopher Hayman (14th) qualified for state as individuals.

CLASS 2A GIRLS — Laughlin had five runners in the top eight to finish with 20 points and win the 2A girls meet.

Henderson International, the only other school to field a complete team, was second with 42. Both teams advance to state.

Henderson International’s Brittany Huff was the individual winner in 22:17.

West Wendover’s Ambar Rodriguez finished second in 22:47, and Laughlin’s Malarie McDonald (23:23) was third.

Rodriguez, West Wendover’s Trinity Smith (fifth) and The Meadows’ Stephanie Gorczyca (13th) qualified for state as individuals.
