Looking ahead at the week in high school sport

Here is a look at some of the week’s top high school sports events.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tuesday — Bishop Gorman at Clark, 6:30 p.m.

The area’s top-ranked team heads on the road against the No. 2 Chargers. The Gaels beat Clark 69-56 in the championship game of the Tarkanian Classic in December.

Friday — Foothill at Liberty, 6:30 p.m.

The Falcons and Patriots enter the week tied for first in the Southeast League at 5-1. Liberty’s Julian Strawther is coming off a 45-point game against Coronado.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Monday — Liberty at Spring Valley, 5 p.m.

The Grizzlies got the best of Liberty in the championship game of the Gator Winter Classic over winter break, and the rematch could be one of the best regular-season games of the year.

Tuesday — Moapa Valley at Rancho, 5 p.m.

The top-ranked team in Class 3A, the Pirates, head to face a Rams team who just entered the 4A rankings for the first time.

Wednesday — Arbor View at Cimarron-Memorial, 5 p.m.

Two teams jostling for position in the Northwest League meet, looking to earn a home playoff game. The Spartans won by four in their last meeting.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Tuesday — Shadow Ridge at Cimarron-Memorial, 4:30 p.m.

The Mustangs and Spartans meet, and the winner could have the inside track for a home playoff game.

Wednesday — Rancho at Las Vegas, 4:30 p.m.

The Wildcats currently are undefeated in the Northeast League at 5-0, but should get a stiff test from the Rams (4-1).

WRESTLING

Friday — Sunset Region meet at Centennial, 3 p.m.

Arbor View will look to defend its region championship, but will face stiff competition from Centennial, Shadow Ridge, Spring Valley and others.

Friday — Sunrise Region meet at Las Vegas, 3 p.m.

Antonio Saldate, Mauricio Jimenez and the rest of Las Vegas High’s team will look to knock off seven-time defending champ Green Valley.

Friday — Class 3A Southern Region meet at Western, 3 p.m.

Boulder City won last year and has shown no signs of slowing down. But look for Virgin Valley, Mojave and others to make some noise.
