BASEBALL: Landis tosses shutout to send Diamondbacks to tourney semifinals

A.J. Landis tossed a five-hitter Wednesday to help Desert Oasis’ baseball team advance to the Division 6A semifinals of the Lions Tournament with a 3-0 win over Bonita Vista (Calif.) in Chula Vista, Calif.

Landis walked one and struck out six.

Chase Adams went 3-for-3 with a solo home run for the Diamondbacks, who scored once in the first inning and twice in the third.

Dominic Paratore went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Bryson Stott and Caeden Marin each went 2-for-4 for Desert Oasis.

Silverado 4, Moorpark (Calif.) 3 — At San Diego, Michael Camburn’s RBI double with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning plated pinch-runner Ryan Colby with the go-ahead run as the Skyhawks nipped the Musketeers in the Lions Tournament.

Payton Ballard went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and scored on brother Mitchell Ballard’s two-run single in the fourth inning for Silverado, which had only three hits in the game.

St. Augustine (Calif.) 12, Green Valley 4 — At San Diego, the Saints broke a 4-4 tie with six runs in the top of the sixth inning and downed the Gators in the Lions Tournament.

Gavin Morley was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Jimmy Montiel went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Green Valley.

Chaparral (Calif.) 9, Coronado 7 — At San Marcos, Calif., the Pumas scored four runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth to rally past the Cougars in the Lions Tournament.

Corben Bellamy was 2-for-2 with a triple, a double and two RBIs, and Nate Ruiz went 2-for-3 with a run for Coronado.

Grossmont (Calif.) 6, Rancho 1 — At El Cajon, Calif., the Foothillers scored five runs in the fifth inning to pull away from the Rams in the Lions Tournament.

Kavion Kealoha doubled and drove in Rancho’s run.

Boulder City 9, Viewmont (Utah) 4 — At Anaheim, Calif., Preston Van Diest was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI to help the Eagles top the Vikings in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

Zach Murphy went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Boulder City, which took control with a six-run second inning.
