Jack Wold has put up huge numbers all summer for the Southern Nevada Blue Sox.
On Saturday, he helped the team pull within one win of a trip to the American Legion World Series.
Wold was 4-for-4 with a double, two home runs, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Blue Sox to a 9-5 win over League City (Texas) in the American Legion Western Regional in Denver.
The Blue Sox (53-7), the only undefeated team left in the tournament, face St. George (Utah) at 11 a.m. PT Sunday. Should St. George win, a second game would follow. The winner of the tournament advances to the American Legion World Series, which begins on Thursday in Shelby, North Carolina.
David Hudleson doubled to left-center field with one out in the bottom of the sixth to score Garrett Giles and break a 3-3 tie. Hudleson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
After Huddleson gave Southern Nevada the lead, the Blue Sox added three runs in the seventh, scoring twice on wild pitches and once on a throwing error. Wold’s two-run homer in the eighth, his 21st of the summer, made it 9-5. Wold has 113 RBIs.
Christian Sanford allowed three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to get the win. He struck out seven and walked two.
J.J. Smith was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Giles went 2-for-5 for Southern Nevada.
