CLASS 1A: Littlefield’s 54-point barrage carries Lake Mead into final

Outstanding playoff performances are nothing new to Landon Littlefield, but the Lake Mead senior guard had his best one yet Friday night.

Littlefield scored 25 points in the first quarter, on his way to a playoff career-high 54, carrying the Eagles to a 103-66 rout of Trinity in a Class 1A Southern League semifinal at Durango.

Littlefield made 18 of 29 shots from the floor, including 8 of 14 3-point attempts. He was 10-for-12 on free throws.

“I came out and hit the first one and I just knew it was going to be one of those nights where everything falls,” said Littlefield, who made his first five 3-pointers. “I just let it go.”

Top-seeded Lake Mead (24-4) will play No. 3 Pahranagat Valley (19-10) in the tournament final at 1:40 p.m. Saturday at Desert Oasis. Both teams have clinched state tournament berths.

De’Quan Thompson scored 19 points and L.J. Yamazon added 11 for Lake Mead, which is gunning for its third straight 1A state title.

“We’re not done,” Littlefield said. “We’ve got to get there and win it. That’s the main goal.”

Budweiser Hawkins led fourth-seeded Trinity (16-11) with 36 points and six rebounds. Tyler Watts supplied 11 points and six rebounds, and Gage Neuwohner scored 11 points for the Thunder.

Pahranagat Valley 53, Beatty 45 — The Panthers opened the fourth quarter on a 7-0 run and held on to eliminate the Hornets.

Cody Hosier scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth for Pahranagat Valley. Tommy Williams added 15 points and Jeremy Roemer scored 12 for the Panthers.

Ivan Maldonado paced second-seeded Beatty (24-6) with 14 points.
 

GIRLS

In May, coach Derek Anderson inherited a Lake Mead girls program that had never been to a state tournament.

Even with two sophomores and a freshman in their starting lineup, the Eagles set a goal of reaching state, and they accomplished it Friday.

Sophomore guard Jordan Clarke scored 21 points to lift Lake Mead to a 50-34 victory over Lund in a 1A Southern League semifinal at Durango.

“We’ve played together since fourth grade, and to finally get to this point, it’s just amazing,” Clarke said.

Second-seeded Lake Mead (23-4) will play No. 1 Pahranagat Valley (19-9) in the final at noon Saturday at Desert Oasis. Both have clinched state berths.

“I told the girls, 'This is what we want to work for,’ ” Anderson said of reaching state. “It means more to me that the girls get there. It’s real special.”

The Eagles jumped to an 11-2 lead and led the rest of the way. Emily Dean had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Samantha Herman supplied eight points and 12 rebounds.

Ale Vega led third-seeded Lund (9-13) with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Pahranagat Valley 40, Henderson International 26 — The Panthers used a 15-3 second-half run to oust the fourth-seeded Wolverines.

Dakota Day and Halie Lewis had 10 points each for Pahranagat Valley, which scored the first nine points.

Ashlyn Barela scored eight for Henderson International, which finished 16-9 after going 4-18 last season.
