Doxtator shines in debut as Falcons roll Trailblazers

Foothill’s Drew Doxtator started his varsity football career in style Thursday night.
The sophomore quarterback, who is replacing graduated all-state selection Parker Riggin this season, passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Falcons to a 45-28 home victory over Durango.
Doxtator finished 10-for-20, and had TD passes of 4 and 45 yards to Tyren Boykin. The sophomore signal caller also connected with Kyle Keplinger on a 68-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Foothill took advantage of several Durango miscues to score on its opening drive.
A 12-yard punt gave the Falcons good field position at the Durango 38, and a penalty for roughing the kicker extended the drive.
Jarett Arcangel put Foothill on the board with a 16-yard TD run with 8:55 to go in the first quarter.
Arcangel added a 3-yard scoring run on the final play of the first quarter to put the Falcons up 12-0.
A 74-yard pass from Doxtator to Keplinger set up that touchdown. Doxtator rolled to his left on the play and then lofted the ball to Keplinger, who cut across the field before being tripped up three yards from the endzone.
Doxtator’s 4-yard fade pass to Boykin made it 18-6, and Naim Muhammad had a 63-yard scoring run with 2:27 to go in the first half as the Falcons took a 25-14 lead at the break.
Doxtator added the two long TD passes in the second half, and the Falcons also got a 4-yard interception return for a touchdown by Jake Winters.
Muhammad finished with 87 yards on 10 carries, and Arcangel had 16 carries for 76 yards.
Keplinger hauled in three passes for 155 yards to lead the receivers, and Scott Stigger keyed the defense with a pair of sacks.
Durango’s Arie McQuaig rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. He also turned a shovel pass from Scott Martinez into a 55-yard scoring play.
