FIELDER’S CHOICE: All Gorman, all the time

Imagine my surprise when I looked at my on-screen guide and saw that Bishop Gorman is on television again this week.
That makes three times in five weeks.
Not that I blame the TV stations. Gorman is either popular or hated, depending on how you want to look at it. Some people will tune in to watch Gorman win. Others will tune in to root against the Gaels.
Spring Valley has two things going for it this week. One, the money that Gorman fans will pay to go to the game. (Note to Spring Valley administrators: charge double.) And two, you’ll have more fans cheering for you than normal.
Bishop Gorman (8-0, 6-0 Southwest) at Spring Valley (5-3, 5-2)
For the first time since Sept. 17, Gorman makes a road trip.
And all things considered, not a bad homestand — four wins, outscoring opponents 241-17 in that stretch. Yeah, that’ll work.
In the seven games Gorman has played against teams from Nevada, the Gaels have scored 384 points and allowed 23.
That creates problems. For Gorman.
I can hear you asking why, so I’ll tell you.
At some point in the playoffs, Gorman will meet a team that is at least close to its own level. The Gaels haven’t been yet tested this year.
It’s hard for the starters to get in a full game, which they’ll need for the postseason. In short, Gorman might not be prepared.
I know, I know. No one is shedding any tears (and neither am I). I’m just saying, don’t expect Gorman to pull starters early.
Spring Valley has a playoff spot locked up and is playing its last league game of the season. The Grizzlies will likely visit Legacy or Palo Verde in the quarterfinals, so this’ll be a warmup.
Another big game from Taj Allen could keep it respectable.
Or not. Gorman by 32.
