Gorman crowned No. 1 in nation again by USA Today

Bishop Gorman's football team finished atop the USA Today rankings for the second consecutive season.

The final Super 25 rankings were released Monday, with the Gaels remaining No. 1.

Colquitt County (Ga.) was No. 2, with De La Salle (Calif.) moving up to No. 3 after beating then No. 5 Corona-Centennial (Calif.) 28-21 on Saturday.

The Gaels also finished No. 1 in the USA Today rankings in 2014. They are the first team to repeat since De La Salle won four straight from 2000 to 2003.

The Gaels were not consensus champions, however. They finished No. 4 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings. Katy (Texas) was No. 1, followed by Colquitt County and De La Salle.

Katy also was first according the HSFB100 rankings compiled by NationalHSFootball.com. PrepNation also had Katy No. 1. Gorman was No. 3 in both of those rankings.

The Gaels went 15-0 this season, capturing their seventh consecutive state title with a 62-21 win over Liberty in the Division I title game.

Gorman has won 39 consecutive games. The last time the Gaels lost was Sept. 21, 2013, against Booker T. Washington (Fla.).
