Paongo leads Virgin Valley to win, but Eagles still make playoffs

Junior Paongo rushed for one score and returned a fumble for another to lead Virgin Valley’s football team to a 27-21 win at Boulder City on Friday.

Tony Urias tossed two touchdown passes for the Bulldogs (4-5, 2-4 Sunrise League), who needed to win by at least 13 points to win a tiebreaker for the Sunrise’s final playoff spot.

Trenton Carmell’s 17-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion run with 1:10 to play trimmed Virgin Valley’s lead to 27-21 lead and enabled the Eagles (4-5, 2-4) to qualify for the postseason.

Carmell threw for 127 yards for Boulder City.
