SOFTBALL: Pochop’s arm guides Rancho by Coronado

Samantha Pochop tossed a five-hitter and struck out 12 on Thursday to lead Rancho’s softball team to a 1-0 win over visiting Coronado in a matchup of the top two teams in the Division I Sunrise League.

Winning pitcher Holly Severance had a three-run double in a five-run fifth inning Friday as the Desert Oasis softball team stunned host Centennial, 9-6.

Gizelle Navarro’s single down the left-field line with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday scored Janella Fiso with the winning run as Virgin Valley’s softball team rallied for a 6-5 home win over Pahranagat Valley.

Coronado’s Pinkston comes back from back surgery

Sarah Pinkston was a second-team All-Nevada selection as a freshman at Shadow Ridge, but missed her sophomore season after back surgery. Amazingly, just less than 13 months after surgery, she”s back in the circle and hoping to lead Coronado to a Southeast League title.
