SOFTBALL: Wildcats surprise Aggies in eight innings

Samantha Taylor and Sabrina Saldate scored on a wild throw with two outs in the top of the eighth to Saturday lift Las Vegas High’s softball team to a 9-7 win at No. 6 Arbor View.

Taylor led off the eighth by reaching on an error and moved to second when Saldate was safe on a sacrifice bunt attempt.

A sacrifice advanced both runners, and following a popout, both runners scored when a throw to third sailed into left field.

Taylor was 3-for-5, and Franco went 2-for-5 for the Wildcats, who got two hits apiece from Serina Ramirez, Skylar Gorrell and Bethany Connell.

Kellie Anderson was 4-for-5 with a triple, and Taylor Beaman went 3-for-5 with a triple for the Aggies. Kayla Stephens also was 3-for-5 for Arbor View.

Desert Oasis 11, Sierra Vista 5 — At Desert Oasis, winning pitcher Scarlett Hurtado belted a grand slam to cap a six-run fifth inning that propelled the Diamondbacks by the Mountain Lions.

Shonda Badayos walked and eventually came around to score on an error to break a 4-4 tie in the sixth. Justine Tadeo-Corpus’ bases-loaded single plated Mary Dungey with another run before Hurtado unloaded the bases.

Karly Severance was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Elsy Guzman was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Diamondbacks. Tadeo-Corpus and Meagan Anders each went 2-for-4 for Desert Oasis.

Kalei Watkins was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Harmony Dominguez went 2-for-3 with a triple for Sierra Vista.

Legacy 11, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Legacy, Alyssa Sotelo went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBIs to help the Longhorns top the Miners in five innings.

Eliza Ledesma-Esparza was 2-for-3, and Lindsey Fishman and winning pitcher Kellie Nelson each went 2-for-4 for Legacy, which also got a home run from Haley Pederson.

Denise Terzoli and Andrea Garner each went 1-for-2 with a double for Sunrise Mountain.
