SWIMMING: Trio guides Palo Verde boys past Mustangs

 

Adam Henley, Logan Houck and Michael Mortenson each won two individual events at Pavilion on Saturday to guide Palo Verde’s boys swimming team to a 196-113 win over Shadow Ridge.

Henley won the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 29.37 seconds and followed it up with a win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.48.

Houck took the 50 freestyle in 23.89 and the 100 freestyle in 51.67, and Mortenson captured the 200 individual medley in 2:12.02 and the 100 backstroke in 59.43.

Canyon Springs 147, Rancho 129 — At Pavilion, Antonio Alcala finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:25.24) and the 500 freestyle (6:54.33) as the Pioneers edged the Rams.

Joseph Guthro won the 100 butterfly (55.81) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.4) for Rancho.

Durango 130, Sierra Vista 130 — At Pavilion, Nicholas McDowell and Carlos Garcia each placed first in two individual events to help the Trailblazers earn a tie with the Mountain Lions.

McDowell swam the 200 individual medley in 2:12.91 and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.97. Garcia took first in the 100 butterfly (58.89) and 100 backstroke (1:10.4). 

Bonanza 78, Desert Oasis 77 — At Pavilion, Valentin Dierick captured the 100 butterfly (1:16.21) and the 100 backstroke (1:18.81) to help the Bengals nip the Diamondbacks.

Kyle Silveroli won the 200 freestyle (2:12.6) and the 50 freestyle (25.55) for Desert Oasis.

Centennial 157, Cimarron-Memorial 138 — At Desert Breeze, Caesar Stewart won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.08 and the 500 freestyle in 7:17.63 as the Bulldogs edged the Spartans.

Legacy 159, Bishop Gorman 111 — At Desert Breeze, the Longhorns had four individuals win one event apiece on their way to a victory over the Gaels.

Gorman’s Tristan Bunker took the 50 freestyle in 23.91 and the 100 freestyle in 49.67.

Arbor View 180, Spring Valley 104 — At Desert Breeze, the Aggies won only four events, but used their depth to top the Grizzlies.

Spring Valley’s Jay Yang, Coco Padilla and Nicholas Cabalo each won twice.

Yang took the 100 freestyle in 49.78 and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.6. Padilla claimed the 200 individual medley in 2:19.87 and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.97, and Cabalo won the 100 butterfly in 56.25 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.05.

Boulder City 189, Silverado 93 — At Multi-Generational, Tore Grasso won the 200 freestyle in 1:53.09 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.17 to lead the Eagles by the Skyhawks.

Tech 117, Chaparral 73 — At Multi-Generational, Xavier Villalobos took the top spot in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 2:21 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.45 to pace the Roadrunners to the victory over the Cowboys.

Las Vegas 158, Valley 116 — At Multi-Generational, Sean Ryan Samia won the 50 freestyle in 22.55, and the Wildcats captured all three relays to down the Vikings.

Mitchell Rockey and Kyle Moore took two events apiece for Valley.

Rockey won the 200 freestyle (1:52.4) and 100 freestyle (52.4), and Moore placed first in the 200 individual medley (2:21.09) and the 500 freestyle (5:37.47).

Sunrise Mountain 127, Virgin Valley 118 — At Municipal, the Miners won the day’s final event — the 400 freestyle relay — to preserve a narrow victory over the Bulldogs.

Sunrise Mountain won only four of the 12 events, but managed the victory.

Ramsey Draskovich took the 100 breaststroke (1:13.87) and the 50 freestyle (25.36), and teammate Nick White won the 100 freestyle (1:01.01) and the 200 freestyle (2:13.91) for Virgin Valley.

Faith Lutheran sweeps Mojave, Desert Pines
At Municipal, Bowen Becker and Mitch Taylor each won two events to help Faith Lutheran collect a 153-80 win over Desert Pines and a 163-76 win over Mojave.

Becker took the 200 freestyle in 2:03.65 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.48, and Taylor captured the 100 backstroke in 1:28.77 and the 500 freestyle in 7:01.5.
