Five children rescued from filthy baby sitter’s home in northwestern Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Animal waste pushed out under the front door of a Bullhead City home where authorities removed five young children and 22 dogs from squalor Tuesday.

Police served a search warrant after Child Protective Services reported that youngsters were living in filthy conditions at the residence in the 4100 block of Bueno Road, according to Bullhead City Police Department spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said.

Children 5, 6, 7, 9 and 10 years old were placed in care of CPS after officers concluded the home was uninhabitable. Fromelt said floors of the home were covered in animal waste, cockroaches and trash.

“There were locks on the fridge and food cabinets so the children could not access them,” Fromelt said.

She said one of the children said they hadn’t been outside since April and that the older children had apparently not been to school for more than a year.

Adults living at the home were identified as Edward Brown, 57, his wife, Sherri Brown, 50, and her 26-year-old brother, Andrew Brown, who police identified as the baby sitter.

The elder Brown was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct for shouting at officers, and various animal ordinance violation citations were issued to Sherri Brown, the owner of 20 Daschunds, and her brother, the owner of two Labradors.

Child neglect and other possible charges are pending against the trio and the children’s mother, Trista Fay Parrott, 29.

Fromelt said Parrott did not live at the home but left her children there under the care of her relatives. Sherri Brown is Parrot’s mother.

Fromelt said the home was owned by Sherri Brown’s mother, who wasn’t named but lives out of town. She told police that she had no idea about the poor conditions. She also expressed an interest in getting the home cleaned up quickly, Fromelt said.

City code enforcement officials at the scene Tuesday afternoon told the Browns that that they had 72 hours to vacate the property because it was unsafe to live in.

Fromelt said Edward Brown is a handyman, Sherri Brown works in the loan industry in Laughlin, and Andrew Brown is unemployed.
