Las Vegas police search for victim of barbershop shooting
Las Vegas police are looking for a victim who was shot at a barbershop inside the Edmond Town Center shopping complex Saturday night.
Lt. Craig Klatt said the call came in at 5:46 p.m. at 921 W. Owens Ave., where it intersects with H Street.
“There were multiple shots. We found blood, but we haven’t yet found the victim,” Klatt said. “We’re still waiting to hear from the hospitals to see if anybody goes there to get treated.”
Several squad cars descended on the strip mall after nearly a dozen rounds were fired at the Executive Cuts barbershop next to a Family Dollar and a Buy Low grocery store.
“It happened on the outside of the barbershop,” said John Edmond, the owner of the shopping center. “You can see the bullet holes, but police aren’t letting me get any closer.”
Valerie Williams, who was waiting for a bus at the time of the shooting, said she heard at least a dozen shots.
Her sister, Tosha, who had been picking up some potato chips for them, was just leaving the Family Dollar when the shots rang out, Williams said.
“She had to dive to get out of the way,” said Williams, who was on the scene, helping her sister who’d apparently broken her little finger.
“I can’t believe what just happened,” said Tosha. “I could have been shot.”
But Tosha said she only heard the shots and didn’t see the shooter.
Police officers and detectives were interviewing witnesses and searching different vehicles in the parking lot, which upset some shoppers.
“I don’t like him going into my car like that,” said one man as police searched his Sport utility vehicle.
The area is often high on the police radar. On Dec. 14, a man was shot inside his vehicle near the Family Market at the same intersection.
The Clark County coroner’s office identified the victim as 23-year-old Joseph Deandre Jefferson of Las Vegas.
Police also are investigating a shooting at a parking lot on Owens Avenue near H Street on Saturday morning. No details of that shooting were immediately available.
