Investigators remove 400-plus animals from facility near Cold Creek

Hundreds of animals were taken into Clark County custody after they were removed Thursday morning from an animal sanctuary northwest of Las Vegas, police said.

After 8 a.m. Thursday, investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County Animal Control served a warrant at an animal sanctuary near Cold Creek, which is northwest of Las Vegas, police said.

Two people were present but were not arrested, though charges may come later, Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

An itemized spreadsheet sent to the Review-Journal by Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin shows a total of 431 animals at the shelter, including 237 rats, and while hundreds were rescued, nearly 100 were euthanized.

Two coyotes, one fox, one hummingbird, nine rabbits, and 54 rats were among the 96 animals euthanized, according to Clark County.

Neither Metro nor Clark County would release the name or location where the animals were kept. Kulin said he couldn’t provide any further details, noting the case is still open.
