Motorcyclist dead after collision with SUV in Henderson

Speed and failure to yield are being blamed for a crash Tuesday afternoon that left a motorcyclist dead, according to an initial police investigation.

The man on the motorcycle, who was wearing a helmet, died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center shortly after the 2:45 p.m. collision, Henderson police spokeswoman Michelle French said.

The eastbound lanes of West Lake Mead Parkway near Industrial Park Road are expected to be closed until about 5:30 p.m., French said.

The motorcyclist was traveling east on Lake Mead when he crashed into an SUV whose driver was heading west on Lake Mead and turning onto Industrial Park Road, French said.

An initial investigation determined that the SUV driver failed to yield and that speed by the motorcyclist also appeared to be a factor in the crash, French said.

The collision remains under investigation, and the SUV driver is cooperating with police, French said.
