Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run in southwest Las Vegas ID’d
July 2, 2016 - 9:25 am
A pedestrian is dead after being hit and dragged by a vehicle in the southwest valley Tuesday night.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon said the hit-and-run crash happened about 11:15 p.m. near the 215 Beltway and Sunset Road.
The Clark County coroner has identified the pedestrian as Idan Cohen, 29. His causes of death were multiple blunt forces injuries and motor vehicle versus pedestrian collision, according to the coroner’s office; his death was ruled an accident.
Police said Cohen was walking east on Sunset Road just east of Dapple Gray Road.
A 2012 Nissan Altima, driven by 25-year-old Whitney Greco, was traveling in the same direction as Cohen when it struck him and dragged him before crashing into a raised median and signpost, police said.
Cohen’s body came to rest on the median, where he was pronounced dead. Greco kept driving.
The Nissan crossed the median into the westbound lanes of Sunset Road, where it struck a 2015 Chrysler. The Nissan crossed over the median again and struck another signpost before turning south onto Roy Horn Way, police said.
As the Nissan approached Durango Drive, it struck a signal light pole and kept moving. Greco finally pulled the Nissan over to the west curb, where officers made contact with her, police said.
Police said she was given field sobriety tests, which she failed. Greco was arrested on charges of driving under the influence resulting in death and felony hit and run, police said.
This is the 52nd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2016.
