Mayweather bet big against Tebow
If the buzz around local sports books is true, boxing champ Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. bet $1 million that Tim Tebow didn't have a prayer against Tom Brady.
Reached for comment Wednesday, Mike Colbert, Cantor Gaming sports book director at M Resort, wouldn't confirm or deny the rumblings. Colbert said he wasn't allowed to comment on who bets what but acknowledged Mayweather is "a valued customer who frequents the books quite often."
Mayweather often posts photos of winning six-figure betting slips on his Twitter feed. He reportedly has members of his entourage -- known as the "Money Team" -- make the bets. That's only illegal if the person making the bet is being paid and lies about making the bet on someone's behalf.
Brady's New England Patriots overpowered Tebow's Denver Broncos 41-23 earlier this month, ending a six-game winning streak engineered by the former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida.
It wouldn't be the first $1 million sports wager at M Resort. Adam Meyer, a sports gambler from South Florida, was approved for a $1 million Super Bowl bet at M Resort in February 2010. Meyer's wager on the Indianapolis Colts was reportedly part of a TV reality show. New Orleans won 31-17.
Mayweather, who was sentenced last week to 90 days in jail on domestic violence charges, tweeted a photo on Monday that showed him with former President George W. Bush and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in Jones' suite at Cowboys Stadium.
Mayweather is scheduled to report to jail Jan. 6.
HILTON INTRIGUE
An eyebrow-raising sighting of Paris Hilton in Las Vegas has been cleared up.
The Los Angeles socialite showed up at Moon nightclub at the Palms about 1 a.m. Wednesday with her ex-boyfriend's twin brother, Jesse Waits, and star DJ Afrojack.
A new Hilton romance? A case of mistaken identity?
Neither, it turns out. It was definitely Jesse Waits, who operates Steve Wynn's XS and Tryst nightclubs.
Afrojack, who just signed a one-year exclusive deal with XS and Encore's Surrender nightclub, and Hilton are collaborating on a song.
"They're just friends," said Alison Monaghan, a Wynn rep.
In the process of tracking down what it all meant, Vegas Confidential learned Hilton is no longer banned from Wynn properties. Monaghan confirmed the development.
Hilton was banned and Cy Waits was fired by Wynn after drug charges were filed against them following a traffic stop while they were leaving the Wynn site in August 2010. She was charged with possession of 0.8 grams of cocaine found in her Chanel handbag. Cy Waits was cited for driving under the influence of marijuana.
Her charges were reduced to a misdemeanor conviction for drug possession after she paid a $2,000 fine, served 200 hours of community service, completed drug counseling and stayed out of trouble for a year on probation.
Cy Waits took a plea deal earlier this year that included a $585 fine.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure had warned Hilton he would lock her up for a year in the county jail if she violated probation.
