Wounded veteran to get new home in Las Vegas

Station Casinos is teaming up with Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl and the Military Warriors Support Foundation to give away a home to a wounded veteran.

Nominations will open Tuesday, Veterans Day, with applications accepted through Nov. 28. The winner will be announced during the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl game on Dec. 20.

“We can’t wait for game day next month when a packed stadium will get to join a very deserving veteran in seeing a dream come true,” Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Executive Director John Saccenti said in a news release from Station Casinos.

“This is the second time we’ve helped give away a home through working with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, and we are excited to be teaming up with a company that values locals as much as Station Casinos does,” he said.

Station Casinos Chief Marketing Officer Staci Alonso said, “We have always been incredibly grateful to our military community, and this partnership is another great example of our ongoing Operation Thank You commitment to veterans.”

Nominations for a local veteran to receive a mortgage-free home can be made by logging on to the Station Casinos website, www.sclv.com/woundedheroes. Nominees must be an honorably discharged wounded veteran or unmarried Gold Star spouse from any American conflict.

On Veterans Day, Station Casinos will continue its tradition of offering a free buffet to all veterans and active military at any of its Feast or Festival Buffet locations.

In addition, at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station, the Gateway Arts Foundation will put on a patriotic show for active-duty and retired military personnel and their family and friends.

The colors will be presented by Sunrise Mountain High School Junior ROTC, and Sun City Aliante Songsters will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Gov. Brian Sandoval plans to present a proclamation to the Gateway Arts Foundation for its contributions to the military community.
