Police are looking for additional suspects after a woman was gang raped on spring break at Florida’s Panama City Beach in view of hundreds of people.
Ryan Calhoun and Delonte Martistee, students at Troy University in Alabama, have been arrested and charged with sexual battery by multiple perpetrators, according to CNN.
A recently surfaced cellphone video shows hundreds of beachgoers partying feet from where at least three men were gang-raping a 19-year-old women who appeared to be unconscious.
Alabama police only discovered the video because they were investigating an unrelated shooting, according to CBS News. The victim believes she was drugged and said she didn’t remember what happened enough to report it.
Investigators believe the incident took place between March 10 and March 12 behind Spinnaker Beach Club, a bar and dance club.
Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen told the Panama City News Herald the video was the “most disgusting, sickening thing” he has ever seen and that the scene was like “wild animals preying on a carcass laying in the woods.”
“This is happening in broad daylight with hundreds of people seeing and hearing what is happening, and they are more concerned about spilling their beer than somebody being raped,” McKeithen said.
Troy University confirmed the two men who have been arrested are students there.
“The students have been placed on temporary suspension from school per the university’s standards of conduct and disciplinary procedures,” the school said in a statement. “Martistee, a member of the track and field team, has also been removed from the team.”
Calhoun is out of jail on bond and Martistee remains in custody, according to CBS News. Both men are expected back in court next month.
Police expect to make more arrests in the case.
