$1M grant to help pay for Las Vegas shooting response

Updated October 11, 2017 - 5:49 pm

WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice is offering a $1 million grant to the state of Nevada to help cover the immediate costs of responding to the Oct. 1 mass shooting in Las Vegas.

The grant was announced by President Donald Trump in what would for anyone else be an unusual manner — on Twitter.

“Happy to announce we are awarding $1M to Las Vegas — in order to help local law enforcement working OT to respond to last Sunday’s tragedy,” Trump tweeted ahead of the Justice Department news release.

The $1 million grant will be drawn from emergency response funds from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

“The Justice Department is continuing to work with Las Vegas officials to address law enforcement and public safety costs related to this tragedy,” the news release said.
