A man who evaded police for 27 years has been arrested in the shooting death of a Las Vegas man.
Authorities in Hialeah, Fla., took Jorge Lima-Jorge, 59, into custody July 20 after an extensive investigation by Las Vegas cold case detectives, the Metropolitan Police Department said Monday.
Lima-Jorge will be extradited to Las Vegas, where he will face a murder charge in the 1983 shooting death of William Banks. Banks was 30 years old when he was found dead from a gunshot wound at a home in the 5100 block of Garden Lane, near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue.
An arrest warrant was issued for Lima-Jorge on March 18, 1983, but he avoided arrest for years by changing his identity and using different aliases, police said. The arrest marks the oldest solved cold case in department history, police said.
