In Las Vegas' second celebrity arrest in two weeks, boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was booked Friday on charges of grand larceny related to a domestic violence incident with an ex-girlfriend.

Police said the charge stems from personal items Mayweather took from ex-girlfriend Josie Harris' house Thursday morning, including her cell phone.

The boxer, a part-time Las Vegas Valley resident, was booked after he voluntarily met police for questioning.

Police did not arrest Mayweather on charges of misdemeanor domestic violence because an arrest must be made within 24 hours of the crime.

Police plan to submit that part of the case to the district attorney for review.

On Aug. 27, hotel heiress Paris Hilton was arrested in Las Vegas on a drug charge.

Plane crash kills one

One person was killed and three others injured when the single-engine airplane they were in crashed in a Henderson neighborhood.

The pilot, Douglas Touchet, 50, died. His wife, Susan, 43, and another couple from Louisiana, Randall and Tamika Savoy, sustained life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the seven-seat private plane had just taken off from the Henderson Executive Airport and failed to gain much altitude.

Residents used garden hoses to try to douse the flames.

No Arberry contract

Clark County commissioners rejected former Assemblyman Morse Arberry's bid to be the courts' lobbyist in next year's high-stakes legislative session.

Commissioners who voted "no" cited concerns about spending public money on state lobbyists and hiring an ex-lawmaker who had no cooling-off period.

Arberry was pursuing the lobbying job before he quit his Assembly post on Aug. 31.

Arberry would have been paid $124,000 over two years plus extra pay for special legislative sessions.

Nye DA arrested again

For the second time in two years, Nye County District Attorney Bob Beckett was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, this time as the result of a call from a concerned Pahrump citizen: Heidi Fleiss.

The former Hollywood madam said she reported a suspicious vehicle parked on the secluded road near her house because she feared it might belong to a stalker.

The car turned out to be a county vehicle with Beckett sleeping in the driver's seat, authorities said.

Chrissy remembers

A 17-year-old sexual assault victim took the unusual step of publicly speaking about her ordeal and the recent flashback that may have resolved her 12-year-old cold case.

With the help of Las Vegas police Sgt. John Scott, who handled the case as a young detective and now heads the cold case unit, Fermin Ivan Perez, 71, was arrested last week at his valley home.

The young girl known as "Chrissy" said she was 5 years old when a man grabbed her and took her to his home, where she was sexually assaulted for five hours.

Two months ago, she drove past the home and it jogged her memory.

Candelabras to go out

After 31 years of celebrating one of Las Vegas' iconic entertainers, the Liberace Museum will close its doors for good on Oct. 17.

Attendance has dwindled over the years at the museum at 1775 E. Tropicana Ave.

Its closure will put 31 employees, including around a dozen full-timers, out of work.
