Clark County School District has an abundance of administrators

Glynis Seeley is on the right track when she says in her Saturday letter that the Clark County School District is top-heavy with well-paid administrators. I can add some actual numbers to that.

The directory listing for central administration, alone, is 40 pages long with 46 names per page. That works out to more than 1,800 people — many with titles and salaries at or near the six-figure level and many in office staff/clerical positions.

But none of the building administrators is in this listing, so we need to add principals, assistant principals, deans and all of their office staff. I suspect that six per building would be a conservative estimate, so the number of people working in administrative positions in the district could be closer to 4,000 than 3,000.

Ms. Seeley is right to call this top-heavy. There is little wonder that we never hear about a shortage of administrators — only a shortage of teachers.
