Some gun restrictions may have hindered Las Vegas shooter

Victor Joecks missed the obvious with his Wednesday column, “Liberal fact: New law no answer.” An old law banning assault weapons would have prevented the horror in Las Vegas on Oct. 1. If assault weapons were still banned, there would be no “bump stocks.” Stephen Paddock would have had to resort to some other nefarious means to kill that many people without assault weapons.

A law banning long guns allowing no more than six shots with successive pulls of the trigger and handguns allowing no more than eight rounds from successive pulls of the trigger would be most helpful. I have been a gun owner, both revolvers and long guns, with only my shotgun being semi-automatic. Any hunter who thinks he/she needs more than six rounds to take any animal needs target practice more than anything.

A final question: How many mass killings have occurred using bolt-action rifles or revolvers?
