The real numbers behind the Clark County School District’s administrative staff

In response to Owen Nelson’s recent letter, “CCSD has an abundance of administrators”: To get to his number, Mr. Nelson went through the district directory titled “Central Administration,” counted the number of people and concluded that there are 1,800 administrators in the central office. But he didn’t factor that support staff working in central are also listed in the directory (custodians and clerical, others).

He then goes on to add an arbitrary number of principals to come up with a total of 3,000 to 4,000 administrators. Misinformation is the biggest roadblock to solutions and understanding. Here’s the facts: There are 1,370 administrators in the Clark County School District, including central and principals and school-based staff. That’s out of 41,800 employees total.

Whether you think that is top-heavy is a matter of opinion and up for debate. But the numbers and facts are not.

Using race to justify or condemn the action of others is simply wrong and, some would say, the definition of racism. We are all one people.
