Here are 5 players to watch in the Rainiers-51s series

After having their first off day of the season, the 51s (8-10) resume action with the Tacoma Rainiers (11-8) on Thursday at Cashman Field.

Here are five players to watch:

Mike Zunino

Zunino, once a highly ranked prospect, has bounced back and forth between Seattle and Tacoma the past few years.

The catcher spent most of last season with the Mariners but has began this year at Triple A. He’s leading the Pacific Coast League in hitting (.413) and RBIs (22) and is tied for first in homers (7).

Donn Roach

Roach, a 26-year-old Las Vegas native, will get the start in Thursday’s game.

The Bishop Gorman High School graduate attended Arizona before transferring to the College of Southern Nevada. He was taken in the third round of the 2010 draft.

Roach, a right-hander, pitched for the San Diego Padres for 16 games in 2014, giving up 17 runs in 30 1/3 innings, and made a spot start with the Chicago Cubs last season, giving up four runs in 3 1/3 innings.

Now with the Rainiers, Roach is 1-1 on the season with a 8.59 ERA.

Efren Navarro

Navarro is another player with Las Vegas ties.

Navarro, a first baseman, played for UNLV for three years before being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels.

He played for the Angels in parts of the 2011 and 2013 to 2015 seasons, but was traded to the Baltimore Orioles in the offseason and eventually designated for assignment before signing with the Mariners in March.

In 18 games, Navarro is hitting .299/.338/.373 with 14 strikeouts for the Rainiers.

T.J. Rivera

Rivera had two or more hits in three of the 51s’ four games against the Albuquerque Isotopes.

He was 8-for-14 (.571) in the series with four RBIs. He fell a triple short of the cycle Tuesday.

His solo home run was his first of the season.

Rivera has played all over for the 51s in his 14 games, making starts at first, second, third and in left field.

Seth Lugo

Lugo is expected to come off the disabled list this weekend and start Saturday’s game.

The 51s put Lugo on the disabled list April 23, and manager Wally Backman said Lugo’s forearm was a little sore but the move was mostly made as a precaution.

Lugo, a right-hander, has pitched one quality start this season sandwiched between two starts in which he gave up seven or more runs.

In his first start, he gave up seven runs — five earned — and in his third, he was tagged for nine runs.
