What to watch for on Day 9 of the NBA Summer League

The ninth day of the 2016 NBA Summer League will exclusively be in the Thomas & Mack Center.

There will be four quarterfinal games, with the winners advancing to Sunday’s semifinals.

The San Antonio Spurs will not be defending their title as they lost Wednesday to Minnesota.

GAME OF THE DAY

Brooklyn vs. Cleveland — These teams weren’t expected to make it this far into the tournament, but one will be moving on to the summer league semifinals. Cleveland, behind its standout backcourt of Jordan McRae and Kay Felder, have knocked off Jaylen Brown (No. 3 pick) and the Celtics and Brandon Ingram (No. 2 pick) and the Lakers in consecutive games. In those two wins, McRae has scored 68 points and Felder’s added 42 for the Cavs. Brooklyn will be led by Isaiah Whitehead (Seton Hall) and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Arizona).

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

— Will Minnesota’s Kris Dunn return to the action? The fifth overall pick in this year’s draft has missed the last three games with a concussion, but could be back to face the top-seeded Raptors at 1 p.m.

— Jimmer Fredette, who was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Brigham Young, is a fan favorite at the summer league. The Nuggets hope that his sweet shooting stroke comes alive and Jimmermania resurfaces when the Nuggets face a loaded Phoenix Suns team at 3 p.m.

— Chicago probably won’t need any ‘Luck of the Irish’ from former Notre Dame stars and current Bulls players Jack Cooley and Jerian Grant when they meet the Washington Wizards at 5 p.m. After all, they’re undefeated and have Denzel Valentine, the 14th overall pick in this year’s draft, and last year’s first-rounder, Bobby Portis.
