Nevada fishing report, Dec. 10, 2015

• LAKE MEAD — Striper fishing has been good on Lake Mead in the Overton Arm and Las Vegas Wash areas. The fish have been biting on anchovies and shad. There are reports of fisherman with catches averaging 10 or more stripers at the north end of Lake Mead. Anglers continue to catch black bass on drop shot rigs in deeper waters.

LAKE MOHAVE — Striper action is good. Reports of fish as large as 10 pounds are coming from anglers fishing north of Cottonwood Cove, but the fish are biting up and down the reservoir. Shore fishing is good in the coves.

LAUGHLIN — Catfish have been biting for shore fishers. Anchovies have proven productive for catfish and stripers. Swim baits and top-water baits are fooling stripers from the dam to Laughlin Bridge. PowerBait and spinners have been working for stocked rainbow trout.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — The Nevada Department of Wildlife is scheduled to stock rainbow trout in each of the four urban ponds this week. The can be found at Floyd Lamb Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. The fish are averaging about 9 inches in length and have been taking PowerBait and small spinning lures. One fly-fisher at Floyd Lamb found good fishing over the weekend with bloodworm and midge patterns.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — All reservoirs are covered with ice, but ice thickness varies from one reservoir to another. One angler ventured onto the ice at Hay Meadow and did well using night crawlers and mealworms. The ice was not quite 4 inches thick. Adams-McGill had only about 2 inches of ice and is unsafe for fishing. The NDOW is encouraging anglers to use extreme caution when ice fishing on the management area.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Most of the reservoir is covered by 4 to 5 inches of ice. Most fishing activity is taking place through the thicker ice just off of the dock. The NDOW planted 5,000 rainbow trout the week of Nov. 30. The crew did so by breaking a hole through the ice to put them in. Fish are taking night crawlers and rainbow PowerBait.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Ice covers the reservoir but remains thin, only about 3 inches thick in most places. Be especially careful along the shore line. The ice is thicker near the dam and in the upper narrows. Ranger Ben Johnson suggests accessing the ice off the dam, but use extreme caution.
