Nevada fishing report, June 30, 2016

LAKE MEAD — Not great success out in Echo Bay overall, but one fisherman caught a good mixed bag of stripers, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass on swimbaits and crankbaits. Fishing has been good for stripers hanging on the surface following their food source.

LAKE MOHAVE — Stripers are biting around Willow Beach Marina. Local anglers fished from shore using anchovies. The stripers are getting bigger, edging towards eight pounds. The lake is also producing some channel catfish in and around the coves while the largemouth and smallmouth bass are going after various crank baits and plastics.

LAUGHLIN — Anglers have been reporting success all along this stretch of the river for striped bass, with most of the catches being in the two pound range. Anchovies are popular and productive for the area. From Big Bend State Park to the nature center, there has been some striper action and some catfish being landed. Largemouth bass seem to be going for spinner baits and the catfish are after nightcrawlers and anchovies.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS — The bite has slowed considerably. Anglers have had fair success for the holdover catfish into the evenings using stink baits. Mealworms have been the productive bait for bluegill with the best bites early or late afternoon. As in years past, catfish will not be stocked for the month of July.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — With weeds emerging, barbless hooks can be beneficial to spend more time fishing than pulling plants from the end of your line. Haymeadow and Cold Springs Reservoirs have been good for crappie with anglers using small jigs and nightcrawlers. Bass are active and hitting on jigs and imitation plastics.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Weeds have become a bit of an issue for anglers, especially those fishing from shore. Trout prefer the early mornings or late evenings to bite on the offerings of PowerBait and nightcrawlers. Action for bass and crappie has been decent and a little longer lived through the day with jigs and wooly buggers working well.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Largemouth bass have been hitting on imitation crawdads, worms and grubs in darker colors. Tube baits in green or root beer color, small jigs and night crawler pieces have brought in the crappie. While the action may continue a little later into the morning, it slows significantly into the afternoon.
