Thomas, Hall rally Rebels to third Mountain West men’s golf title

Zane Thomas shot a 5-under-par 67 and Harry Hall a 68 on Sunday to help rally the UNLV men’s golf team to a three-stroke victory in the Mountain West Championship in Tucson, Arizona.

The No. 25-ranked Rebels, who were in sixth place after the first round and in second after the second, outscored second-round leader New Mexico by five strokes in the final round in the 11-team, 55-player tournament.

UNLV shot 9-under 279 in the final round to finish at 18-under 846 for its third Mountain West title and first since 2002.

The Rebels have won four times in 11 events this season.

Thomas, a senior, finished in a three-way tie for third at 6-under 210. Hall, a freshman, tied with sophomore teammate John Oda in eighth place at 212.

Also for the Rebels, sophomore Shintaro Ban tied for 15th at 214, and sophomore Ben Davis tied for 22nd at 217.

Fresno State junior Trevor Clayton was the medalist at 9-under 207 to help the Bulldogs finish third, 13 strokes behind UNLV.
