Hauck likes UNLV’s first practice

UNLV coach Bobby Hauck said he thought the Rebels had a crisp first day of spring football practice Monday.

“We’re obviously a little rusty, but it was pretty sharp for a first day with two new coordinators,” he said. “The effort level was good. The intensity was good. Guys, for being laid off since the end of November, were pretty sharp.

“For a nonpadded practice, it was pretty fast. It was good.”

The Rebels are operating under new coordinators Timm Rosenbach on offense and Tim Hauck on defense.

UNLV will practice three days a week until the April 12 spring game, taking off the final week of March for spring break. The Rebels will go into full pads Friday.

All practices, which are at Rebel Park, are open to the public.

Linebacker Connor Afoa and defensive lineman Desmond Tautofi are ineligible and no longer in the program. Afoa played at Foothill High School, and Tautofi went to Calvary Chapel.

Offensive lineman Jason Koontz graduated early and decided not to return.
