PICK OF THE WEEK:
MEGA TOM'S
2893 W. Lake Mead Blvd. at Simmons Street, 645-8667
The full name for this restaurant is Mega Tom's Gourmet Fast Food Dining. And why not? The 100 percent beef hamburgers are made fresh daily, as are the onion rings. Steak and chicken are hand-trimmed, and salad dressings, salsa and chili are made daily from a secret recipe. Something's going on here, and it's good. Quarter-pound, charbroiled hamburgers can be made with a variety of toppings, including chili, pastrami, bacon, avocado and mushrooms that go perfectly with a chocolate or vanilla milkshake. Other sandwiches are rib-eye steak, pastrami, turkey melt, BLT avocado, tuna, Philly cheesesteak, patty melt and grilled cheese. There are Gardenburgers, large salads and tasty burritos, tacos and quesadilla starring the pastrami quesadilla. Featured dinners are fish and chips, fried chicken, chicken fried steak, pork chops and New York steak. Among the breakfast items, many served with country hash browns and toast, are assorted omelets (Denver, four cheese, chili), sandwiches (egg croissant, steak and egg), egg dishes with pork chops, rib-eye or chicken breast, breakfast burritos, hot cakes, and biscuit and gravy with eggs and bacon. Hamburgers start at $2.99. Mega Tom's is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. -- Jack Bulavsky
