Fetus found in dumpster behind Southern California laundromat

Authorities were investigating the discovery of a fetus behind a business in Hawthorne, Calif., Friday, officials said.

Investigators were called to a laundromat in the 5000 block of West El Segundo Boulevard at 7:39 a.m. about the discovery of what appeared to be a fetus, Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed officials near an open dumpster behind Coast Laundry.

Lt. Royer of the Hawthorne Police Department later confirmed the discovery was a fetus.

There was no immediate word on a possible cause of death. The laundromat is located near Hawthorne High School.
