HENDERSON TO OPEN NEW PARK

The city of Henderson plans the grand opening of Horizon Crest Park, 2393 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, at 10 a.m. April 5. The event is expected to include remarks from Henderson City Councilman Sam Bateman and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT HONOR FLIGHT SOUTHERN NEVADA

Honor Flight Southern Nevada, a Henderson-based nonprofit, is partnering with Harley Davidson to host a fundraiser pancake breakfast scheduled from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 5 at 2260 S. Rainbow Blvd.

The event costs $5 and benefits the organization, which pays for World War II veterans to travel to Washington D.C. to visit the National World War II Memorial.

HENDERSON POLICE TO OFFER CITIZENS’ ACADEMY

Henderson residents are invited to apply to the upcoming Henderson Police Department Citizens’ Academy, which is slated to start May 6.

The program, scheduled to meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for 13 Tuesdays, covers topics such as radio and communication training, community policing, use of force, gang enforcement, crime scene investigation, detention center procedures, criminal justice overview, domestic violence and criminalistics.

Applications are due April 10.

SUNSET GARDEN CLUB HOSTS MASTER GARDENER PANEL

The Sunset Garden Club is scheduled to meet at noon April 8 at the Paseo Verde Library, 280 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The scheduled free program is Lilies – Beyond Easter and is to be presented by a Master Gardener panel.

HENDERSON ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR TEEN TRAINING PROGRAM

Henderson is accepting applications for its Teen-N-Training junior leader program.

The program provides hands-on learning experiences, training teens to become future recreation leaders.

Participation is open to those 14 or 15 years old. It costs $110 per teen.

Applications are due April 18.

ENTRIES FOR PARADE SOUGHT

The city of Henderson is seeking entries for its 2014 Henderson Heritage Parade, scheduled at 10 a.m. April 26 on Water Street.

The theme is Let’s Go to the Market, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Henderson Farmers Market.

HENDERSON EVENT HONORS EARTH DAY

The Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive, is scheduled to host its annual Birding Celebration from 8 a.m. to noon April 26.
