New homes being built on Irene Porter Street near Aliante in North Las Vegas, a subdivision street named in honor of the late housing industry leader who served more than 35 years as the executive director of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association. The street is in Ryland Homes’ new Centennial Crossings Highland community of townhomes, which launched sales last month. SNHBA past President Mick Galatio of Desert Wind Homes named the street in honor of Porter in 2008 to mark her 30th anniversary as the association’s CEO. She had a long history with North Las Vegas as a former resident and a former city planning department director. Porter, who died in 2012, was also regarded as a champion of first-time homebuyers; an advocate of equal rights for all, a mentor to women in her industry; and a top lobbyist at the Nevada Legislature.
