It’s Animal Cracker Night in minor league baseball

“Buy me some peanuts and animal crackers, I don’t care if I ever get back …”

It’s usually peanuts and Cracker Jack at the ballgame. Tonight in minor league baseball, it’s peanuts and animal crackers.

Tonight is Animal Cracker Night around the minors.

For the second straight year, MiLB has joined forces with the D. F. Stauffer Biscuit Company, makers of the original animal crackers, on a season-long national sponsorship.

So tonight fans of the Albuquerque Isotopes, Bakersfield Blaze, Inland Empire 66ers, Lake Elsinore Storm, Lancaster JetHawks, Reno Aces, Sacramento River Cats and Visalia Rawhide will received free Stauffer’s Animal Crackers when they leave the ballpark.

“Nothing sparks a sense of nostalgia like the family atmosphere of a baseball game and the innocent sweetness of animal crackers,” said Rod Meadows, Minor League Baseball’s vice president of sales and marketing.

Unfortunately for Las Vegas baseball fans/animal cracker enthusiasts, the 51s are on the road tonight, at Reno.

What are the chances Las Vegas manager Wally Backman will swap a chaw of chewing tobacco for a wad of animal crackers?

Not very good, one supposes.
