Land Rover Las Vegas supports area Boy Scouts

Land Rover Las Vegas continues its support of the Las Vegas Area Council of Boy Scouts of America as a lead sponsor for the fifth annual Sporting Clays Classic. The event, scheduled for April at Land Rover Las Vegas and the Desert Lakes Shooting Club, just west of Boulder City, benefits the more than 34,000 youth in local Scouting.

The two-day event begins April 20 with a banquet and auctions at Land Rover Las Vegas and continues the next day with the shooting competition. It brings together four-person teams from companies across the Las Vegas Valley. The event has raised more than $500,000 for local Scouting since its inception in 2008.

The competition challenges teams to earn the highest shooting score in three classes, a format that gives beginners and experts an equal chance at winning. Sporting clay targets are thrown in a variety of trajectories, angles, speeds, elevations and distances from 20 stations located on the mountainous course.

One lucky competitor will win a one-year lease of a 2012 Range Rover Sport in a drawing after the event. Participants also will get the opportunity to experience Land Rover's legendary capability on a challenging off-road course.

Land Rover Las Vegas is part of the Findlay Automotive Group, which has been serving the automotive needs of Southern Nevadans for more than 50 years. Family patriarch Pete Findlay opened his first Las Vegas dealership, Pete's Used Cars, in 1961 and was awarded an Oldsmobile franchise that same year. The Findlay Automotive Group has grown into a regional power, with 25 dealerships representing 18 vehicle franchises in Nevada, Arizona, Utah and Idaho.

It remains a family-run business to this day, with Pete's son Cliff Findlay, the current and longtime CEO, and Cliff Findlay's sons Justin, Robby and Nathan entrenched in the business. The company employs more than 1,200 people in four states, including 40 at Land Rover Las Vegas, which became part of the Findlay Automotive Group in 1999.

General Manager Ray DiNardi invites area residents to drop by to see the entire line of 2012 Land Rovers, including the new Evoque, and take a drive on the challenging on-site test course.

Land Rover Las Vegas is at 5255 W. Sahara Ave., between Decatur and Jones boulevards.
