HENDERSON’s cultural arts and tourism
department wins award

The North American Travel Journalists Association recently recognized the city of Henderson’s department of cultural arts and tourism.

The department received a silver award in the category of social media and marketing campaign.

Henderson’s winning entry was “Destination Exclusive,” a quarterly

Art FESTIVAL SEEKS participants

Henderson is seeking artists to apply to participate in its upcoming Art Festival of Henderson scheduled May 11 and 12. The annual Mother’s Day weekend event is expected to feature a variety of contemporary artists, fine craft, fashion and home décor artisans as well as artists creating chalk art.

MASTER GARDENERS sCHEDULE CLASSES

Clark County Cooperation Extension Master Gardeners are scheduled to offer free classes at Acacia Park, 50 Casa Del Fuego St.

The first class is slated for 9 a.m. April 6 and is expected to cover questions about choosing plants.

MEETING TO DISCUSS PEDESTRIAN CIRCULATION DOWNTOWN

The Regional Transportation Commission is scheduled to host a public meeting from 4 to 7 p.m. April 3 at the Henderson Convention Center 200 S. Water St.

The public meeting is expected to discuss the “Henderson Downtown Pedestrian Circulation Study.” For more information, call 702-676-1606.

WORKSHOP offers JOINT DISEASE ADVICE

Superior Health Solutions and the Foundation for Wellness Professionals are scheduled to host a workshop at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Whole Foods, 100 S. Green Valley Parkway.

The free workshop is expected to discuss arthritis and alternative approaches to relieving joint disease.

ROSE SOCIETY PLANS SPRING MEETINGS

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Cooperative Extension and the South Valley Rose Society are set to offer free educational meetings on a variety of gardening topics.

The group’s first spring meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road. The meeting plans to feature a preview of the April 20 Rose Show and tips on presenting and purchasing roses at the show.

EGG HUNT PLANNED saturday at pool

The city of Henderson is scheduled to host an egg hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive.

Dozens of eggs are expected to be hidden along the bottom of the pool.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

The event costs $5 per person.

NEVADA’S BIG GIVE
TO PUSH ONLINE GIVING APRIL 25

The second statewide online giving initiative, Nevada’s Big Give, is scheduled for April 25, and Nevada’s Big Give is encouraging local charities to sign up online. The giving day initiative is open to all state nonprofit organizations to participate.

Nevada’s Big Give is a day of online giving that benefits charities across the state. This initiative, launched by NevadaGIVES, is designed to bring new donors and dollars to nonprofit organizations in Nevada.

To sign up, charities can visit nvbiggive.org by Monday and follow the instructions to register and create a homepage on the site. Charities that participated last year are automatically signed up.

Nevada’s Big Give urges participating nonprofits to encourage their supporters to donate on the giving day. To further help meet charities’ fundraising goals, Nevada’s Big Give will hold professional development workshops for nonprofits.

Established in 2003, NevadaGIVES is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to increase awareness of philanthropy so more people give back in a way that is meaningful to them.
