Nevada’s 150th anniversary medallions available for pre-order
CARSON CITY - People who want to buy a medallion commemorating Nevada’s 150th anniversary will eventually be able to do so online.
But those who want to order them now can call Matt Robinson, the state Sesquicentennial Commission’s project coordinator, at 775-687-0608 to be placed on an advance order list.
One of the first activities of the sesquicentennial celebration will be the minting, on Oct. 25, of special one-ounce silver medallions featuring the state seal on one side and the 150th anniversary logo on the other. The medallions will be minted in the Nevada State Museum, in a building that served as the U.S. government’s Carson City mint from 1870-93. The medallions will be struck on an 1868-era press that minted coins when the mint was in use.
Eventually an online purchase form will appear on the commission’s nevada150.org web site. Medallions also are expected to be sold at state museums starting in November.
Commissioners agreed two weeks ago to charge $100.50 for the silver medallions and $15 for copper medallions that also will be minted at the private Northwest Territorial Mint in Dayton.
Profits raised from the sale of medallions will cover some of the commission’s costs.
