PUMPKIN PATCH SET TO OPEN

The Gilcrease Orchard, 7800 N. Tenaya Way, is scheduled to open its pumpkin patch from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday starting Sept. 27.

The orchard also plans to have its signature apple cider, apple cider doughnuts and varied produce selection for sale. Wagon rides and a maze are available to extend the fun. Pumpkins are 50 cents per pound.

AT&T EXPANDS 4G LTE COVERAGE TO MORE NORTH LAS VEGAS CUSTOMERS

AT&T has added new mobile Internet cell sites in North Las Vegas to expand AT&T 4G LTE coverage for area residents and businesses.

AT&T invested nearly $200 million between 2011 and 2013 to enhance its wireless and wired networks in the Las Vegas area. The new cell site in North Las Vegas is enhancing coverage near the intersection of Eastern and Owens Avenues.

YOUTH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION PARTNERS PROGRAM GRANTS NOW AVAILABLE

Las Vegas’ annual Youth Neighborhood Association Partners Program grant application process is open through Nov. 19. YNAPP offers grants for up to $1,000 for youths to create and implement neighborhood-based service learning projects of their own design. The program requires youths to match the city’s grant with cash, volunteer time or in-kind services and goods donated to the project. Projects are required to take place within city limits. FRIENDS OF CRAIG RANCH TO OFFER TWO YOUTH SERVICE SCHOLARSHIPS

Friends of Craig Ranch are set to offer two youth service scholarships. Local students between the ages of 13 and 22 are eligible for a $500 scholarship. Winners will be chosen on the quality and quantity of volunteerism displayed in Craig Ranch Regional Park and the surrounding area in North Las Vegas. Applications are due March 14.

CENTENNIAL HILLS HOSPITAL PLANS BABY-SITTING CERTIFICATION CLASS

A baby-sitting certification class is planned from 8 a.m. to noon the second Wednesday of every month at Centennial Hills Hospital, 6900 N. Durango Drive. The four-hour class helps youths ages 11 to 16 gain the knowledge and skills they need to care for infants and children, as well as time to practice these skills in a web-based program.

The Las Vegas Astronomical Society holds events every month for those interested in learning about astronomy. The society meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the College of Southern Nevada Planetarium, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave., usually with a speaker or program on an astronomical topic.

CENTENNIAL HILLS LIBRARY HOSTS STORY TIME FOR KIDS

The Centennial Hills Library plans to host story time for babies from birth to 18 months at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. most Thursdays and story time for children ages 3-5 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. most Wednesdays at 6711 N. MASTER GARDENERS TO HOST KIDS GARDENING CLASSES

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Junior Master Gardener program plans to offer hands-on gardening activities from 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday at the Clark County Center for Urban Food Production, 4600 Horse Drive.

Children ages 7-12 are invited to attend. The eight-session-per-semester class fee is $50. Students must register to participate.

WILDLIFE REFUGE GROUP HOSTS MONTHLY MEETINGS

Friends of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of the month at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension offices, 8050 Paradise Road.

The group provides volunteers and other support to the National Wildlife Refuge, 30 miles northwest of Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs.

AUDUBON SOCIETY HOSTS BIRD WALKS

The Red Rock Audubon Society hosts bird walks at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, starting at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month. CROSSING GUARD RECRUITMENT FOR 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR STARTS

The North Las Vegas Police Department is recruiting for school crossing guards to work near elementary schools for the upcoming school year. Crossing guards are responsible for assisting students safely across busy intersections on their way to and from school.

The position is part-time and pays $9 an hour. Guards typically work from 6:30 to 9:15 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m. every day when school is in session depending on to which school they are assigned.

BELLY DANCE CLASSES PLANNED AT ACTIVE ADULT CENTER
