Outgoing legislator to run for Las Vegas council

Former Sen. Bob Coffin, D-Las Vegas, says he will seek the seat on the Las Vegas City Council now held by Gary Reese.

Coffin, who served in the legislature from 1982 to 2010, was forced out by term limits.

In a written statement about his decision to run for City Council Coffin said: "The City of Las Vegas is at a crucial time in its history, and I know my experience on the Senate and Assembly money committees could prove valuable in protecting city taxpayer dollars."

Coffin ran for the state assembly and won in 1982. He served in the state senate from 1987-2010.
