Pardee supports HomeAid’s pet project in Town Square

Today kicks off the start of the final week of Project Playhouse: Pet Edition, which features nine one-of-a-kind pet houses on display in a fundraiser to benefit HomeAid Southern Nevada.

The live auction takes place at 7 p.m. June 3 with a raffle drawing scheduled for 4 p.m. June 4. The two live-auction houses are Pardee Homes' "In The Doghouse" firehouse-themed design and KB Homes' "At Home in a Hydrant."

The goal is to raise $30,000 for HomeAid, which works to partner service providers with the building industry in an overall effort to build and maintain dignified housing for homeless families and to give individuals the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

"The response so far has been very encouraging," said HomeAid Southern Nevada Executive Director Kathleen Dye. "We have a lot planned this final week, including pet adoptions with Best Friends Independent Rescuers on Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m."

The pet houses are currently on display at Children's Park in Town Square, located at 6611 Las Vegas Blvd., south. Tickets are $5 each and are sold at Project Playhouse Pet Shoppe from noon to 8 p.m. daily.

Longtime local homebuilder Pardee Homes has a leading role in the annual event with three pet houses on display.

"As supporters of HomeAid locally and nationally for many years, we're proud to again be a part of Project Playhouse and this exciting new theme," said Klif Andrews, Southern Nevada division president of Pardee Homes and Southern Nevada chapter president of HomeAid. "This is a fun event that unites builders and subcontractors for a very worthwhile cause."

Pardee Homes also has a social media campaign under way and hopes to raise as much as $1,500 for HomeAid. Visit the Pardee Las Vegas page on Facebook and for each "like," $2 will be donated to the organization.

Pardee's 2011 Project Playhouses include three pet houses each with a unique theme. Pardee's Green Dog doghouse design features many sustainable items, including roof-mounted solar panels to generate power for lighting and an automatic water and feeding system.

Pardee's In The Doghouse features a firehouse theme, complete with a brass bell, American flag and hand-carved windows while the Lucky Dog House has a more traditional dog-house design with plenty of trimmings.

Additional Project Playhouse: Pet Edition participants include: Martin-Harris Construction Co. with two houses titled "Little House on the Prairie" with a removable front porch and "Tiki Hut," complete with a faux bamboo exterior and grass roof; Pulte Homes has the "Ultimate Fetching Challenge" or "UFC" dog house, complete with "mixed mutt athletics" or "MMA" as its theme; Fusion Sign & Design has the "Pirates of the Canine-bbean" and KB Home has two houses, "At Home in a Hydrant" and "A KB Home fit for a K9."

The Las Vegas Review-Journal/Sun is the media sponsor and Tony Award-winner Anthony Crivello, star of Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacular, is the 2011 Project Playhouse celebrity spokesperson. Project Playhouse donations will be accepted at six PitStop Chevron/Arco locations in Southern Nevada and daily at the Pet Shoppe at Town Square.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, Pardee is one of the West's largest and longest-established homebuilders.

Pardee has built homes and planned communities for more than 40,000 families in Southern Nevada since 1952.
