‘Slender Man’ inspires another violent attack

In the wake of reports of a 12-year-old girl stabbing her friend in Wisconsin, another attack has reportedly been inspired by the online mythological monster “Slender Man.”

Police say a 13-year-old girl attacked her mother with a knife in Ohio. Her mother says she was dressed up like the monster and “playing the role.”

According to her mother, who remained anonymous, the girl has mental health issues, but she didn’t believe it would get so bad as to inspire a violent attack.

“We found things that she had written and she made reference to Slender Man. She also made references to killing,” the mother told WLWT. “She even created a world for Slender Man in the game Minecraft.”

Slender Man is a years-old, online-originated urban legend about a tall, thin man in a suit with a blank face that stalks and kills wanderers. The stories are part of “creepypastas” which are short horror stories in online forums. He originated from photos as part of a 2009 “paranormal pictures” Photoshop competition.

The girl had reportedly attacked her mother in their kitchen, giving her multiple minor cuts across her face, neck and a stab wound on her back.

The girl was taken to a juvenile detention center.
